Born in 1972 in Klosterneuburg, Alexander Brom grew up in Vienna, Graz and Linz before studying Egyptology, Ancient Semitic Studies and Romance Languages and Literatures in Vienna, during which time he also ventured into the world of theatre as an extra in plays by Hagnot Elischka and Miki Malör.
In 1997, he began training in Karatedo Doshinkan, which he now also teaches and in which he holds the rank of Renshi 7th Dan.
Following his graduation in 2000 and a range of jobs and activities, he now lives in Vienna as an author, performer and martial artist. Since 2016, he has been enthusiastic about collaborating with Claudia Heu on the artistic research and practice Umherziehen. As Markus Schleinzer's co-writer for the screenplay of his film Angelo (2018), he is very much looking forward to working with the filmmaker again.
Significant for my teaching is …
... taking up space, changing habits, pushing boundaries – that is at least what Karatedo gives me. And perhaps others too, for that matter.
