Marie-Therese Handle-Pfeiffer studied German philology (German studies) and South Asian and Tibetan languages and cultures (Indology) at the University of Vienna. Travel, literature and theatre have formed an essential part of her life since her childhood.
Since 2007 she has been intensively exploring traditional Indian dance forms, and since 2010 she has been an integral part of the Odissi Samskara Vienna company. She is particularly fascinated by the combination of narrative and purely formal, aesthetic elements that characterise this East Indian dance tradition.

Following her studies, she worked on productions at the Theater in der Josefstadt, the Akademietheater and the Landestheater Niederösterreich. Since 2016 she has been part of the wortwiege team (formerly Salon5) as a dramaturg, assistant director and stage manager. Since 2018 she has worked regularly as a freelance dramaturg with Karl Baratta, in particular with the association badluck, which creates theatre by and with professional refugee actors and performers (such as The Power of Things at the Weltmuseum Wien in 2019).

Significant for my teaching is …
…close reading, sharp and interconnected thinking, and the desire to bring a text to life in three dimensions. I am convinced that we humans need stories to be able to understand the world. That in turn is necessary in order to shape it.
