Oliver Sproll grew up in Freiburg im Breisgau, completed an apprenticeship there as a carpenter and gained practical craft experience in France in organ building. After attending seminars, including with Philippe Gaulier, he studied at the École Jacques Lecoq in Paris. He completed his degree in Physical Theatre (Pantomime) in 2001 at the Folkwang University in Essen, where he was awarded the Folkwang Prize. He learned stage fencing from Klaus Figge during his studies and as an assistant to Ellen Kästner at the Westphalian Drama School in Bochum. Through seminars and exchange with Stefanie Hermes, he developed the craft of making theatre masks. Fascinated by the body and movement, he trained as an Alexander Technique teacher under Prof. Nadia Kevan in 2003, attended foundation courses for alternative practitioners, became a GYROKINESIS® method trainer in 2016, and attended continuing education courses on fascia and neuro-athletics. Oliver Sproll has acted in theatre productions (Lucerne, Düsseldorf, Bochum) and independent productions, as well as with Company Trifolie, directed, and staged combat and fencing choreography. As a writer and director, he developed a clown theatre piece at the KJT Dortmund. He gives international seminars in the fields of physical theatre and body awareness, and works as a coach for „body and presence“. He has taught at the Westfälischen Schauspielschule Bochum, the Robert Schumann University Düsseldorf, and taught movement theory, physical training, mask work and stage fencing for 20 years at the Folkwang University in Essen across the musical, physical theatre, opera and acting departments. Since 2022, Oliver Sproll has been teaching „Physical Performance“ at the Max Reinhardt Seminar in Vienna.

Significant for my teaching is …
... to discover the multi-layered process that leads to physical adaptability and playful diversity.
