My name is Paul Eisemann. Having grown up in Berlin, I completed my training there as an event technician at the Siemens Media Academy in the early 2000s.
After that, my community service at the Café Theater Schalotte introduced me to theatre for the very first time.
Alongside my work as a technician in arts and industry – for example, regularly at the Haus der Kulturen der Welt, the Atze Musiktheater, with the Basel a cappella band The Glue, or nationwide at various trade fairs – I remained active there on a voluntary basis for over six years before moving to Theater Basel as an operator.
Back in Berlin from Switzerland, I worked again at the Haus der Kulturen der Welt, the Gorki Theater, for various independent companies and, since 2014, repeatedly for the Salzburg Festival, the Salzburg Landestheater, the Easter Festival and Mozart Week in Salzburg.
In 2019 I worked in Vienna for the first time on a co-production by the Gorki and the Festwochen – together with Rainer Casper – before moving there permanently in 2020, right in time for Covid.
In Vienna, I work for the Theater in der Josefstadt, the Volkstheater, the Wiener Festwochen, the Tanzquartier, and the brut.
I have designed lighting for productions by Atash, Error Theater, Sirene Operntheater, Wien Modern for Desert Shore and the Burgtheater.
Working with designers such as Felice Ross, James Ingalls, Paul Grijl, Rainer Casper, Stefan Bolliger, Friedrich Rom, Bertrand Couderc and David Seldes had and still has a major influence on my idea of space and reception, of concept and what happens afterwards.
