Samouil Stoyanov

Samouil Stoyanov was born in Sofia and grew up in Linz. Even in his childhood, he performed on stage as a dancer, musician and amateur actor. He received training in ballet, jazz dance, tap dance, flamenco and contemporary dance, and worked as a set designer and lighting technician at the family's own theatre and ballet school, MAESTRO. Following regular youth theatre workshops at Lake Wörth, where he worked with hearing-impaired children, he began his acting studies at the Max Reinhardt Seminar in Vienna in 2011. First engagements during his studies. From 2015 to 2020, he was a permanent ensemble member at the Münchner Kammerspiele.
Collaborations include work with Anna Badora, Killian Bauer, Nicolas Charaux, Amir Reza Koohestani, Toshiki Okada, Stefan Pucher, Yael Ronen, Simon Stone, Claudia Bauer and Sascha Hawemann, among others. Alongside his theatre work, he acts in television series and films.

In 2018 he received the sponsorship award of the Friends of the Münchner Kammerspiele and in the same year the arts promotion prize in the „Performing Arts“ category from the Bavarian State Government. At the 59th Berlin Theatertreffen 2022, Stoyanov was awarded the Alfred Kerr Acting Prize for his performance in the play „humanistää!“ (directed by Claudia Bauer) and he was voted „Best Actor“ by the jury at the 2022 Nestroy Theatre Prize. Since the 20/21 season, Samouil Stoyanov has been a member of the ensemble at the Volkstheater.

Of significance for my teaching is…
...besides the practical tools one receives as a practicing artist, to place the focus on individuality. „How can one be the best version of oneself in the artistic profession“ and still thrive within the collective context of creating and discovering art together. I consider it my task to focus more on identifying strengths and talents, because based on my experience, that is ultimately what provides security and self-confidence for the journey into professional life.
