Claudia Heu works as an artist, performer and teacher in Europe, Mongolia and the USA. Her work encompasses site-specific performances, installations and social interventions, operating on the boundary between reality and fiction, and the search for spaces of encounter and dialogue. The performances take place in real-life spheres of action.
Since 2013, she has been working with Mongolian and European artists and researchers on the research project Alga Bolokh I / II / III – Vom Verschwinden in Berlin, Ulaanbaatar, and the Gobi Desert. Alga Bolokh I / II / III – Vom Verschwinden is a series of various performances and lectures that deal with threatened places and spaces, with the untold and the invisible. Listening, conversations with people, the traces of the place itself, written records, and oral traditions are an essential part of the work. It is a kind of archaeological process. Over time, history reveals itself.
Claudia teaches performative practices, presence work, as well as aikido and somatic practice, at the Music and Arts University of the City of Vienna (MUK), the Max Reinhardt Seminar, the University of New Mexico, SEAD Salzburg, DOCH University Stockholm, and Applied Theatre at the Thomas Bernhard Institute – Mozarteum Salzburg.
Significant for my teaching is …
Aikido begins with getting to know the capabilities of one's own body and an understanding of the body-mind unity. It is important to become „simple“ again. Any excess here diminishes effectiveness because it is distracting. Through constantly changing impulses from partners, one learns a sharper perception of self and others, thereby strengthening self-confidence and trust in one's own instincts, which is a foundation for good improvisation. „Then I just stand here and I am ready“ (Morihei Ueshiba)
Talmi – Method ® is a body and awareness practice. Through targeted touch and movement, tension is released and transformed into freer movement. To understand what blocks our fluidity and hinders our joy of movement and play, body awareness is required, along with the recognition of one's own (bodily) patterns, which are often decades old.
What happens when our body becomes free and as a result our perception and thinking can change?
